Suggestions for Improvement

What features would you like to see on AOL Reader

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Please improve the action of "Space" key shortcut

    For example, a webpage:

    line1…
    line2…

    line9…
    line10…

Then I press the Space key, the page will be like this:

    line12…
    line13….

    line20…

That means you have to scroll up 1 or 2 lines to catch the “missing” line11 to continue your reading process. You have to move your finger to the up arrow key or the touchpad to do this.

I think keeping 1or 2 lines of the previous page after pressing the Space key would be better:

    line9…
    line10…

    • Feed is still not update fast enough

If I compare with other feed supliers, you insert news items 10 to 15 minutes slowers. Why ? Why not scan rss feeds more frequently ?

        • Robust filter capability for incoming articles

Please provide a robust filter capability for incoming articles.

For example, if I subscribe to Reuters Top News (http://feeds.reuters.com/reuters/topNews), I might want to add a Star to any article containing "Ukraine". I also might want to "mark as read" any article containing "e-cigarettes", or Tag an article containing "California".

These need to be very robust, and able to be applied at any feed level (all feeds, one or more folders, or specific feeds) and contain all the standard actions (star, mark read, tag).

          • Convert top-level feed titles into hyperlinks to the website

All top-level titles for each feed should also be links to the website. I've included a graphic to illustrate which feed title I'm talking about.

            • Prevent keyboard focus loss when browsing feeds whose preview tries to steal focus

Some RSS feeds have a preview that steals focus, causing the keyboard based operations to stop working until the user clicks the mouse outside the focused area.

The feed I've seen this issue with is the slashdot.org RSS feed. When browsing feeds using 'j' to navigate to the next thread, if the article preview renders it will display an embedded comment view. This comment view now has keyboard focus and will prevent keyboard commands from going to the AOL Reader.

It would be better if AOL Reader prevented this loss of focus until the user clicked on the comment view…

              • For some reason I can't add The Nation RSS

                http://www.thenation.com/rss
Searched that, no results. That's The Nation's RSS link. Why does it automatically search for an RSS instead of just adding it if I have the link?

                • Remember login session across browser restarts

Right now if you close and reopen browser with AOL Reader, AOL will require you to sign in again. This is annoying, please keep the cookies and let me just get to the Reader when I reopen the browser.

                    Hi,

We are currently looking into implementing this feature. We understand the importance of accessing your reader with ease and hope you can bear with us while we sort out the possibilities of implementing this.

Thank you for your input and support,
                    The AOL Reader Team

                  • Flipboard +Flip it in share

It would be nice to add the new Flipboard Feature to the share menu +Flip it. This would allow us to share articles to our Flipboard magazines for later sit back reading and to share with our not so techie friends. Thanks for listening and GREAT Work you are my google reader replacement. nudge Mobile app!

                    • to add support unicode UTF-8 and right to left texts.

I'm a Persian user. when I want to read a text which has a complex set of Persian and English characters, then whole words in the text are disordered. I think right to left text support in UTF-8 Unocode can complete this reader.
Many thank for your good reader, it's the best replacement for gReader!

                      • Ability to see all recently read items in one place

Google Reader had a section called "Recently read" which was very useful if you switched to a different feed or closed reader and wanted to get back to what you just saw. I would really love to see this functionality in Aol Reader. Keep up the great work, guys!

                        • Support for add to home screen on iOS

I can add AOL Reader on Home Screen on my iOS devices but there is a problem... Support for tabbed pages is missing. There is no way for me to go back to Reader after opening an article for full story. All you need is to add some codes in your browser for Safari to enable tabbed pages.
